Improvement in the Controller
Sony is looking to improve the immersive aspect of the game for the player. For this purpose, they are introducing two new features in the controller.
Firstly Sony is going to remove the “rumble” technology that has been used in the previous iterations of the controllers. Sony is going to implement haptic feedback which will provide a wide range of feedbacks through the controller. Sony said in their reveal “With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.”.
Secondly, they are introducing what they call “adaptive triggers”. This will be implemented in the trigger buttons which are L2 and R2. Adaptive triggers will measure the amount of force/push the player puts on the trigger buttons and with the help of the haptic feedback technology produce an immersive gameplay for the player. Sony describing their adaptive triggers said “Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions.”
Improvements in the Console
Some of the few Key features of the new console improvements will be
PlayStation 5 (PS5) will come with the ray tracing technology. The ray-tracing technology will help with the lighting in the textures and produce better lifelike visuals in the game. There will be a hardware component in the GPU of the console which will help in Ray tracing.
PS5 will have SSD storage instead of the disk drives that were in the previous generation consoles. This will help games have better loading times due to the better read and write speeds of the SSD. The SSD in the PS5 will also be removable (not user-removable) which will help in improving the life of the console.
