Box Office weekend From 18th October to 20th October 2019.
This was a relatively slow weekend in terms of Box office numbers for Movie Cinemas. There were a few new releases this weekend. Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Sony’s Zombieland Double Tap were two of the few which opened this weekend. Both were the second instalment of their respective franchises. Maleficent took the first spot this weekend with a weekend gross of $36,000,000 Domestic. Whereas, Zombieland took the 3rd spot with a gross of $26,725,000 Domestic. The 2nd spot was taken by Warner Brothers’ Joker which had a huge box office opening three weeks ago. Joker grossed this weekend at $29,205,000 Domestic.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Disney’s sequel to the Maleficent, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil starring Angelina Jolie as Maleficent herself was supposed to bring in big numbers at the box office. But Maleficent was barely able to beat Joker which had been on the cinema screens for three weeks. The Worldwide gross opening weekend for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is $154,119,786. This tells us that the movie did quite well internationally.
Zombieland: Double Tap
Zombieland: Double Tap coming at 3rd failed to beat Joker at the box even with so much hype backing it up. As there were many fans who had waited 10 years for the sequel to come out. The above movies are in no way bad or anything but still, this was a very slow start in box office for both Maleficent and Zombieland. The Worldwide gross opening weekend for Zombieland: Double Tap is $32,025,000. Zombieland had a very poor international release which will hopefully get a little better in the upcoming weekends.
Joker had record-breaking October opening weekend with a domestic gross of $96,202,337 in the opening weekend. Joker has grossed $247,229,004 domestically since its release. Worldwide gross of Joker is $737,529,004 and it might cross the billion mark in a couple of weeks if it keeps going like this.
